A Smarter Card

Cosmo with BYU ID Card [Click and drag to move]

Free UTA Rides

Eligible cardholders will use the new BYU ID smartcard to ride all UTA transit for free beginning Aug. 1. Please get the new card before Aug. 27 or after Sep. 15.

It may take 1 day for your new BYU ID card to work with UTA.

All BYU ID cards will still have a magnetic stripe on the back for Cougar Cash transactions and other uses.

Cost

BYU smartcard technology is more expensive but your very first ID card is still free. Exchanging an expiring or dysfunctional card is free too; just make sure you turn in the expiring or faulty card when requesting the new card. All students, faculty, employees, and affiliates will pay $10 for a lost card replacement.

If an employee, spouse, or dependent replaces a lost card at a location that does not take cash payment, the charge will be posted to the employee’s Financial Account (mfc.byu.edu). Please make payment within 30 days to avoid additional fees.

Visit the ID Center

When you visit the ID Center, please remember:

  • Do NOT punch a hole in the card. The smartcard chip and antenna locations may vary, and if you punch thru the chip or antenna, the smartcard will not work. It will cost $10 to replace a punched card.

Instead, ask the ID Center for a free mini card holder. We do have a limited supply so only one per person please.

  • Lunch is the busiest time at the ID Center. To avoid extra wait time, try to visit the ID Center before 11am or after 2pm. See ID Center hours.

  • If your last ID card photo is more than 2 years old, you will need to have a new photo taken. The ID CenCamerater is behind the Studio 1030 salon; you can make an appointment at studio1030.byu.edu if you'd like to update your haircut or style before having your photo taken. Prices for Studio 1030 services are posted on their website.
  • Whether or not we need to take a new photo, please make sure you meet all Dress and Grooming standards. The ID Center staff have been asked to only issue ID cards to individuals who meet standards.

  • Once you have the new card, it should work for most building access within 15 minutes. If your card does not work for door access within 15 minutes, please contact your building coordinator. Cougar Cash and meals plans will work right away.

Please get the new ID card

Students attending fall semester 2018

Returning and Current Students: If you have not already gotten the new card, please do so ASAP! Please avoid visiting the ID Center August 27-September 15 as we will be focused on printing cards for new students and you may be asked to come back another day.

New Students: Please get your BYU ID card as soon as possible. If possible, get your card before August 29 to avoid lines.

If you will not attend BYU fall 2018 but will attend a future semester, please get the new ID card when you return to BYU. UTA rides will only be free via the BYU ID card when you are registered for the current semester or a future term or semester.

Employees

Please exchange your ID card at the ID Center, 1057 WSC, before August 27 or after September 15. Please avoid visiting the ID Center August 27-September 15 as we will be focused on printing cards for new students and you may be asked to come back another day.

Spouses and Dependents of Employees and Students

Sorry, spouses and dependents of SLC instructors and students are not eligible for an ID card or UTA rides.

Faculty (FT & PT) and Full-Time Employees: Spouses and dependents (ages 6-30, unmarried) of employees who are eligible to ride UTA for free, are also eligible for a BYU smartcard and free UTA rides.  Employee spouses and dependents should come in for the new ID card anytime before August 27 or after September 15. Please avoid visiting the ID Center August 27-September 15 as we will be focused on printing cards for new students and you may be asked to come back another day.

Note: Some spouses and dependents have not downloaded from DMBA correctly. Please log in to myaccount.byu.edu. If your spouse and dependents are listed, you're good to go. If someone is missing, please first contact DMBA and make sure they have the person's SSN and other information. Then wait approximately one week. If the person is still missing from myaccount.byu.edu, please contact the Benefit's Office, 2-4716, D-240 ASB.

Part-Time Employees and Students: Log in to myaccount.byu.edu.

  1. If your spouse and dependents ARE listed, please invite your spouse and unmarried dependents, ages 6-30, to come to the ID Center to get an ID card.
  2. If your spouse and dependents are NOT listed, please read the following options carefully:
    1.  If you know your spouse’s and dependents’ Net IDs, use the green “Add” button on the Account Management page to add your spouse and dependents. MAKE SURE YOU INCLUDE THE NET ID!
    2. If you do NOT know your spouse’s and dependents’ Net IDs and they have, or had, some affiliation with BYU (dependent of a FT employee, EFY, sports camp, employment, graduated, applied to attend, etc.), please visit the Registrar’s Office, B-150 ASB, in person. Enter your spouse and dependent’s information on the Registrar’s touchscreen. It may take up to 5 days for the information to be processed. Keep checking myaccount.byu.edu. Once your spouse and dependents appear on this page, they can get an ID card.
    3. If your spouse or dependents have NEVER had any affiliation with BYU (dependent of a FT employee, EFY, sports camp, employment, graduated, applied to attend, etc.), use the green “Add” button on the Account Management page to add your spouse and dependents.

Again, spouses and unmarried dependents, ages 6-30, of employees and students (excluding SLC instructors and students) are eligible for a BYU ID card. The card can be used as an all-access UTA pass starting August 1. Dependents under the age of 6 can ride UTA for free with an adult, no card needed. Anyone 6+ needs to have an ID card or other form of fare to avoid a ticket.

If your spouse or dependent is old enough to have photo ID, please make sure they bring it with them to the ID Center.

All lost or abused ID card replacements will cost $10. If an employee, spouse, or dependent replaces a lost card at a location that does not take cash payment, the charge will be posted to the employee’s Financial Account (mfc.byu.edu). Please make payment within 30 days to avoid additional fees. If a card is dysfunctional or expiring, make sure you turn in the current card and we’ll replace it for free.
